The Story

After I’d been creating various dog breeds for a while, I started playing around with an idea for a sheep and my “Got Sheep” design. Then it occurred to me that I could combine the sheep with the illustrations I’d created for herding breeds to make a fun design for herding dogs. And thus began the surprisingly popular “In the Sheep” series.

The Tervuren is a the Belgian shepherd with a two-toned, long-haired coat. There are three other versions of the shepherd—the Belgian Malinois, with a short coat, the Belgian Shepherd (aka Groenendael), with a solid black coat, and the Belgian Laekeonois, with a short, wiry coat.

When we’re out covering agility trials, we sometimes—through some weird alchemy of course design, lighting and personal preference—find ourselves photographing the same obstacle or series of obstacles trial after trial. While it’s not always great for photo sales, it does mean that we get more chances to get fantastic shots of dogs doing a specific obstacle.

One year, the tire jump seemed to be the obstacle that was always in the right place, with the right lighting and the right approach to get good photos. So, this calendar features twelve images of mid-to-large sized (jumping 20″-26″) agility dogs jumping through the tire jump. We also have tire jump calendars featuring small and mid-sized agility dogs.
